Classwize Filtering
Summary
How to use Rules in Classwize to allow/block sites
Intended Audience
Steps
-
To modify rules in your class, you can log-in to Classwize from this link: https://us.classroom.qoria.cloud/login/-FB3KM27qQ.
-
Log-in with your work email. It should auto roster all of your classes.
-
Classes are synced from Synergy and will have names based on the associated ID of the class. You can rename them to make it easier to define which class is which.
-
If you click the scheduling button, you can define a start time and end time

-
If you open the class you start it manually if you are starting a class at the the moment.

- While it is running it will show you what all the students in that class have up on their Chromebooks.
-
You can also click the Rules button to allow or block specific sites, or categories of sites.
-
So, for example, if you teach a foods class and want to allow foodnetwork.com you would click on Rules and add a rule that is set to allow foodnetwork.com, or, you can allow full categories like the "food and dining" category. This would allow anything categorized as recipes or other food related sites.

- If you want to keep kids from watching YouTube, you can look for YouTube in the search and set a block rule to prevent students from accessing it.
- A Full list of categories, and sub categories, with examples can be found here: https://help.linewize.com/hc/en-gb/articles/9270533216284-Filtering-Categories-Guide
- The rules you create are generally assigned to the whole class, but can also be specified for individual students by unchecking the "Whole class" box.
- Any rules you apply will remain on any time you start that class until you delete or modify them. So, you don't have to worry about adding rules every day for class.
-
There are other tools as well that can be useful. For example
- You can send chats to students to direct them or answer questions.
- Using the tools section you can open a site for all students if you want them to go to a specific site
- You can make an announcement that will show up on everyone's screen.
-
You can turn on a Focus which limits them to only accessing the sites/categories you specifically list and blocks everything else.
- Or you can even pause the internet all together.
- Just remember to start the class or these rules will not apply to the students.
-
Also remember, that because these rules apply to your class time. If you are assigning something as homework that may be blocked students may not be able to access it at home. But if their parents use the Qustodio app they can allow it for them during off school hours.
- Qustodio can be downloaded from both the Apple App Store as well as the Google Play Store.
